Wintertime Fun

Before heading out to the parks to participate in winter sports activities, be sure to check the Current Park Conditions or call 513-521-7275 to find out about conditions, closures and safety advisories.
Activities
Cross-Country Skiing
Permitted everywhere except golf courses and conservation areas. Skiers must bring their own equipment.

Hiking
Permitted on all trails. Please be mindful of trail and weather conditions.

Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is gauged upon the thickness of the ice, which Great Parks Rangers check daily. Ice-fishers must bring their own equipment.

Outdoor Ice Skating
When proper ice thickness allows, ice skating is permitted in designated areas at Miami Whitewater Forest, Mitchell Memorial Forest, Sharon Woods, Triple Creek, Winton Woods and Woodland Mound. Safe skating areas are designated with barrels and signs. Great Parks Rangers check ice conditions daily.

Sledding
Sledding is permitted at Embshoff Woods, Sharon Woods and Winton Woods. Visitors sled at their own risk.

Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve

This is Great Parks of Hamilton County's smallest park, but the Pin Oak Trail offers a short hike that passes a prairie, a forest and a pond.

Fernbank Park

Fernbank Park is a partnership between the Cincinnati Park Board and the Great Parks of Hamilton County. The park offers a one-mile paved trail that winds through the park.

Glenwood Gardens

This beautiful park has everything for an enjoyable winter hike, including a trail that winds through wetlands prairies and meadows.

Miami Whitewater Forest

In addition to skating on the lake (in designated area), check out the park’s paved trails out into prairie and wetland or even do a little ice fishing (weather and ice thickness permitting).

Mitchell Memorial Forest

After skating on the pond (in designated area), enjoy cross-country skiing along Wood Duck Trail or hike the challenging mountain bike trail.

Sharon Woods

Take a whirl on Sharon Woods Lake (in designated area), sled down the hill near Sharon Centre and stop inside Nature’s Niche Gifts & Books or play at Adventure Station indoor playground. Be sure to take a hike on the Gorge Trail or around the lake.

Shawnee Lookout

There are three moderate nature trails for a scenic walk in search of winter wildlife.

Triple Creek

This park offers a pond for skating (in designated area), a paved trail for hiking and ice fishing (weather and ice thickness permitting).

Winton Woods

Enjoy ice skating (in designated area) at Kestrel Point pond, sledding at Butterfly Bluff in Harper Meadows or hiking on nature or paved trails, or stop by Parky’s Farm to visit the animals.

Withrow Nature Preserve

The Trout Lily trail offers a beautiful view over the Ohio River.

Woodland Mound

Check out the two nature trails in the winter, go ice skating on the pond (in designated area), and drop by Seasongood Nature Center.
