We're thrilled to announce exciting changes to the Great Parks Photo Walks, now rebranded as the Framing Nature Photo Walks and Framing Nature Photo Club. Join us on these captivating journeys through nature, capturing moments and sharing the wide-open wonder of our Big Lands!
Here's what you need to know about these revitalized experiences:
Framing Nature Photo Walks
Formerly known as the My Great Parks in Pictures Photo Walks, our Framing Nature Photo Walk series welcomes aspiring photographers of all skill levels, as well as all types of cameras and smartphones - with specific discussions tailored to each type. Photojournalist Malinda Hartong will share techniques, skills, and insights for capturing the beauty and wonder of our natural world.
These walks will be held on the first Sunday of April, June, August, and October, with each focusing on a specific theme.
Photo Walk Schedule
Photo Walk #1: Macro Photography & Aperture
April 7 | 3 – 4:30 p.m. | Withrow Nature Preserve | Trout Lily Trailhead
Photo Walk #2: Moving Objects & Telephoto Lens
June 2 | 3 – 4:30 p.m. | Winton Woods | Harbor Pavilion
Photo Walk #3: Predictive Focus
Aug. 4 | 9 – 10:30 a.m. | Woodland Mound | Seasongood Nature Center
Photo Walk #4: Lighting & Using Circular Polarizers/Filters
Oct. 6 | 3 – 4:30 p.m. | Miami Whitewater Forest | Timberlakes Trailhead
Framing Nature Photo Club
The Framing Nature Photo Club aims to create a community of amateur photographers with a shared love for nature photography. Club members will be encouraged to share ideas and useful resources – in addition to those shared by club leaders.
The Photo Club will meet on the first Sunday of May, July, and Nov., and the second Sunday of Sept. All meetings will be held at Winton Woods Auditorium, and like our Photo Walks, will revolve around a specific theme. Photo club membership is free.
Club members are invited to submit their photos taken in any of our 22 parks and preserves. Photo submissions may be used by Great Parks, with due credit given when possible. (Please see photo submission guidelines below)

Photo Submission Guidelines
- Photos must be renamed using the following format:
park name/season/photo’s theme
(e.g., wintonwoods/summer/rubythroatedhummingbird) - Photos should feature scenery, animals, and close-ups of natural objects found in the parks. However, close-up photos of people cannot be accepted.
A valid motor vehicle permit is required to enter all Great Parks.
