Lesson of the Month - March 2008

Importance of Proper Alignment

As Spring approaches, I thought it would be good to take a refresher course on properly aligning oneself to a target. How we align our body to the target will have an effect, either good or bad, on our swing motion. The most common fault golfers’ face with alignment is aiming their body at the target versus parallel to their intended target line. Once we identify our target, it is our goal to set our body parallel with the target line. It is very common place for Tour Players to use a club as an alignment aid during their practice sessions. Take a look at the following pictures:

Practice Practicals

  • Always practice to a specific target.
  • Use a club on the ground to assure proper alignment to target.
  • Incorporate a pre-shot routine during your practice sessions which enables you to visualize your target line.
