The University of the Great Outdoors (UGO) is a new initiative by the Hamilton County Park District Naturalist Department to encourage health and nature appreciation in the Great Outdoors. Throughout the year, UGO programs will be offered at various parks with an emphasis on outdoor exercise and nutrition. The programs are designed to be fun and educational! Experience recreation in nature!

After Work Walk / 4:30pm or 5:30pm

At 4:30pm, we will cover 2 miles. At 5:30pm, we will cover 3.5 miles. Do both to cover 5.5 miles!

Family Campout / 5:00pm

Take advantage of this facilitated event where staff will guide you through the basics of car camping and lead fun outdoor activities for your family to enjoy. Every family will be assigned a food item to bring. Campout goes from 5 pm on May 16 until 11 am on May 17. Cost is $30 per family of five with each additional person $5. Deadline to register is May 8. Register online.

Hiking Tour of Woodland Mound / 1:00pm

Enjoy a May day during this moderately-paced hiking program of all three trails totaling 2.6 miles.

Did you know that peaches were native to China and symbolize longevity? Join us for this moderately paced 2.5 mile hike featuring “walking trivia” about fruit. Then we will sample some tasty treats to celebrate the “fruits of our labor.” Cost is $3 and the deadline to register is May 27. Register online.

Summer Day Hike / 9:00am - 3:00pm
Miami Whitewater Forest
Explore the park on this Naturalist-led hike. Please bring a bag lunch, snacks and a water bottle. Water will be provided. This hike will cover between five to seven miles. Sturdy shoes will be needed for hiking rugged and hilly areas. Deadline to register is May 27. Register online.

Whether your interest is in canoeing or kayaking, Ohio has many scenic areas to experience the great outdoors along our waterways. Join this indoor program to learn paddling techniques, tricks, tips and equipment.

Friday Night Float

Enjoy a relaxing canoe outing on the lake. Get some pointers on canoeing, learn some lake natural history and head out to enjoy the sunset. Participants must fit properly in provided personal flotation devices. Cost is $6 and the deadline to register is June 12. Register online.

Join this fast paced hike that will be sure to get your heart rate up. The distance covered will be 7.8 miles of paved trail that winds through beautiful country.
