Nature NOW!

Witness Nature as it Happens

Nature NOW! programs offer guests a glimpse into the remarkable spontaneity of natural phenomena. From wildlife encounters to awe-inspiring floral blooms, each experience is as unique as the ecosystems surrounding us. Nature NOW! programs are entirely dependent on optimal environmental conditions, which cannot always be determined with considerable notice.

Complete the interest form to be notified when Nature NOW! programs are available across Great Parks. By email, guests receive a 24-hour notice of optimal program conditions and a registration link. Capacities are limited, and spots are first-come, first-served. Specific location details are shared only with registered guests; completing the interest form does not guarantee participation in any program.

Current Programs

The Great Amphibian Migration

Every spring, amphibians are on the move at Great Parks. During nighttime, if conditions are over 40°F and rainy, you might see salamanders, frogs and toads flocking to their breeding waters to lay eggs! Optimal conditions typically happen in March.

Pawpaw Hike

Pawpaw trees grow to tall heights, have oblong leaves and produce Ohio’s largest native fruit. Also known as the custard apple or Appalachian banana, this tropical-flavored delight is a rare treat, and to get a taste you’ll need to act fast! When the fruit ripens, it is quickly devoured by wildlife and doesn’t last long. On this pawpaw hike, learn more about the incredible pawpaw tree and taste its unique fruit. Optimal conditions typically happen in September.

Peak Fall Leaf Peep

During the fall season, trees transform, and their leaves become a stunning canopy of colors. Great Parks offers some of the best views in the region to take in this vibrant display. See fall leaves at their peak foliage color on an autumnal hike when temperature, daylight and rainfall conditions are ideal—typically in October.

Snow Hike

Join a hike on the snowy trails to enjoy the beauty, quiet and calmness of wintertime (weather permitting). Look for tracks in the snow to see which wildlife have been traveling the same paths.

Weird Duck Weekend

Winter brings strange birds to the region’s lakes, rivers and ponds beyond the regularly seen mallards and Canada Geese. Take a short hike around the water’s edge to view some truly weird winter migrant ducks!
