Great Parks, Volunteers to Clean Winton Lake
Great Parks will team up with hundreds of volunteers to clean Winton Lake at Winton Woods, in an annual springtime tradition to beautify the park. The Winton Lake Community Cleanup is from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, with activities focused in and around Winton Woods Harbor.
Winton Woods is the most visited of the Great Parks, and at more than 150 acres, Winton Lake is a highlight of the park. When water rushes into the lake from the surrounding watershed, it carries litter such as bottles, fast food containers, tennis balls and even larger items. Great Parks organizes this cleanup each spring to remove litter and recyclables and protect habitat for the wildlife that lives at the lake. The first cleanup took place in 1988, so the event is nearly four decades old.
There is no cost for participation, but preregistration is required at GreatParks.org to ensure enough supplies for everyone. A complimentary lunch will be provided courtesy of presenting sponsor Fifty West Brewing Company.
Great Parks hosts many volunteer events throughout the year to help with invasive plant removal, trail maintenance, seed harvesting and interacting with park guests. Information about volunteering with Great Parks is available at GreatParks.org.
