Great Parks 1800s Harvest Jamboree Steps Back in Time
Onion pie and corn pudding will be cooking over a fire, while guests make homemade candles and play in family-friendly games like tug-of-war as Great Parks goes back in time to celebrate fall in Ohio with the annual 1800s Harvest Jamboree, from 1-5 p.m. on November 7-8 at Shawnee Lookout.
The 1800s Harvest Jamboree recalls early autumn in the 1800s, when residents of this area were busy gathering crops and preparing for the cold winter, all while enjoying warm fellowship. Great Parks team members, many of whom will be wearing historic attire from the period, will lead activities from Ohio’s pioneering days. Guests can taste traditionally prepared dishes from the 1800s such as Portugal cakes and red pickled eggs. They can also try their hand at tomahawk throwing, tin making, two-person crosscut saws and simple games like stilt walking and Jacob’s Ladders.
Admission to the 1800s Harvest Jamboree is free, with some activities requiring a small fee.
Shawnee Lookout, located near the convergence of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, has deep ties to the regional history of the area, and was occupied for thousands of years. This park has wide views of the Ohio Valley and includes beautiful hillsides and natural habitat for many different species.
Great Parks thanks Vistra Miami Fort Power Plant for supporting the 1800s Harvest Jamboree.
