Great Parks Expands Disc Golf Tournament
Great Parks has expanded its annual Hops & Hyzers disc golf tournament to a second park, reflecting the growing popularity of the event while giving more people the chance to enjoy recently completed renovations at its courses. The newest Hops & Hyzers tournament will take place on Saturday, July 11, at the Winton Woods course, which was upgraded last year. It joins the site of the original Hops & Hyzers tournament, Woodland Mound, which will return as a host site on Saturday, September 26. The Woodland Mound course was renovated in 2023.
Hops & Hyzers is a family-friendly day of fun on Great Parks’ beautiful disc golf courses. These courses wander through trees, grassy areas and over small hills and are especially welcoming for beginner and intermediate skill levels. The tournament name refers to the HighGrain beer available on site to guests 21 years of age and older, and hyzers, which are a type of disc golf throw that curves through the air.
In addition to these one-day tournaments, additional games and contests will offer fun for families, children and spectators each day. The host parks, Winton Woods and Woodland Mound, are also full of opportunities to explore and discover, with thousands of acres of green space.
Great Parks thanks HighGrain Brewing Co., as presenting sponsor of Hops & Hyzers. After the Winton Woods tournament, participants are invited to attend a tournament awards ceremony at the HighGrain Brewing Brentwood Brewpub location at 9176 Winton Rd.
Great Parks offers two additional disc golf courses. The 18-hole course at Miami Whitewater Forest was renovated and expanded in 2025. The nine-hole course at Embshoff Woods is the next to receive upgrades, with planning underway now.
Hops & Hyzers is coming up on Saturday, July 11, at Winton Woods, and Saturday, September 26 at Woodland Mound, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Registration is $35 and will be available at greatparks.org in the weeks leading up to each tournament. All ages are welcome, with alcohol restricted to ages 21 and older.
