Commemorate America’s 250th birthday with a family-friendly community picnic and festival, in partnership with Ohio’s Homecoming & Picnic month. Grab your favorite picnic basket and celebrate a once-in-a-generation national milestone with family, friends and neighbors. Lay your blanket at the beautiful lake’s banks and enjoy live music, local food and beverages, boating, fishing, contests, games and crafts as Great Parks honors 250 years of history and community.

What to know

Join a nature interpreter and kayak instructor to explore the waters of Winton Lake! Begin with a safety overview, then paddle out to discover waterfowl and other wildlife. All equipment is provided. Participants must properly fit into the provided life jackets and not exceed the 275-lb. weight limit.

Native Plant Propagation

What to know

Protect nature, care for the outdoors and explore Great Parks at our community volunteer project! Help us grow our native plant and seed nursery. These workdays will include a variety of season-dependent tasks, including transplanting seedlings, weeding and maintaining production beds, planting new garden beds and collecting and processing seeds. No prior training is required! You will be working alongside employees and trained volunteers to learn plant identification and propagation skills needed for these workdays. Specific task details will be communicated to those registered closer to each workday.

Long-Term Volunteer Information Session

New volunteer information sessions are for individuals interested in our long-term volunteer program! Great Parks offers diverse service opportunities for teens (ages 14-17) and adults (18+) to develop conservation and educational skills in the outdoors, make a difference in their community and build lifelong friendships. From environmental education to golf course care, whatever your passions might be, you can find your home at Great Parks! During new volunteer information sessions, we will share an overview of the volunteer program, review open volunteer roles and expectations and explain the next steps needed to get you started volunteering.

A fun way to learn the wonderful game of golf! You will become familiar with the fundamentals of the five shots encountered on the golf course, including wood shots, iron shots, chipping, pitching and putting. Classes will cover fundamentals, rules and etiquette. Classes run five consecutive weeks.
