Protect nature, care for the outdoors and explore Great Parks at our community volunteer project. Remove honeysuckle in one of our high-quality natural areas to maintain biodiversity and allow our native species to grow and thrive. Use hand tools, such as loppers, pruners and hand saws, to cut down the honeysuckle. Employees or trained volunteers will follow close behind to spray the stumps with herbicide to effectively kill the plants.

Protect nature, care for the outdoors and explore Great Parks at our community volunteer project! Great Parks is proud to collaborate with the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) in one of the biggest multi-state litter cleanups in the country. Join us as we remove litter from the Ohio River along the shores of Fernbank Park. This is a great way to start a Saturday, and you’ll get a free Ohio River Sweep t-shirt! Volunteers 13 years of age or younger must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

This area will be a focus site over the next few months to open the canopy and allow sunlight and native plants to return and flourish. Our natural resource management plan goal is to remove 10 acres of honeysuckle a year, and with your help we can reach this goal!
