Great Parks will host the annual 1800s Harvest Jamboree, including pioneer-style food, family-friendly games and activities that recall what it was like to live on the Ohio frontier, all under the beautiful fall foliage at Shawnee Lookout, from 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 9.

Food available at the Jamboree will include recipes like onion pie and corn pudding, reminiscent of the types of dishes prepared at harvest time in this area during the 19th century. Tomahawk throwing is a favorite activity at the event, and the games also reflect a simpler time, with hoop rolling, sack races, Jacob's ladders and even pairs of basic walking stilts. Activities will include candle making and using a draw horse, symbolic of the types of work local residents would spend their time on at this time of year in the 1800s. School lessons will be taught in the authentic 1800s Springhouse School that is one of the major historic attractions of Shawnee Lookout.

The 1800s Harvest Jamboree is in the perfect setting of Shawnee Lookout, which sits atop a hill and overlooks both the Ohio River and the Great Miami River, close to the point where Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky meet. Shawnee Lookout has extensive historic connections and includes scenic trails and incredible opportunities to connect with nature.

Admission to the 1800s Harvest Jamboree is free, though some activities require a small fee like tin crafting, plant pounding and candle making (cash only).

The presenting sponsor for the 1800s Harvest Jamboree is the Vistra Miami Fort Power Plant.

(Note: Valid Motor Vehicle Permits are required for every vehicle entering Shawnee Lookout. Information about purchasing MVPs, and accessing free or discounted MVPs, is available at greatparks.org.)
